Lochan na Lairige
This former natural hill loch was made into a dam during the Hydro Electric development of the area in the late 1950s. It is easily accessed from the single track road going over to Bridge of Balgie. It is within the Natural Trust for Scotland Ben Lawers Nature Reserve and the banks are the subject of on going planting with suitable native trees and shrubs. The Brown Trout are hard fighting and the angler must work to tempt these wild fish. There are many small bays with rocky under water out crops which can hold good trout. It is worth while walking round taking care at steep bankings and where intakes emerge from tunnels. Please do not fish from the Dam wall and be epically careful when crossing the walk way. Permits can be purchased from Cruachan Caravan and Camp Site.
